Description

In the early light of a fifteenth‑century court, the noble Don Enrique lies exhausted, waiting for a missing minstrel whose elusive song was meant to seal a secret pact. Around him, the chamber of the lord of Cangas buzzes with hushed speculation: escaped escutcheons, whispered rumors of love across distant seas, and the uneasy silence left by absent retainers. The courtiers—pages, squires, and seasoned knights—exchange nervous glances, each wondering whether the delay hides a simple fatigue or a deeper danger.

Against a backdrop of richly adorned tapestries and an alchemical study that few may enter, tension builds as the first escutcheon finally arrives, trembling with an apology and an ominous promise of “great news.” The scene sets the stage for a tangled web of loyalty, ambition, and mystery, inviting listeners to step into a world where honor and hidden motives collide at the break of dawn.

Mariano José de Larra

1809–1837

A sharp, restless voice of Spanish Romanticism, he turned journalism into a weapon against hypocrisy, bad taste, and political failure. His essays still stand out for their wit, speed, and frustration with a country he longed to see renewed.
