Description

An ambitious young man raised among the cloisters of Eton dreams of a life far beyond the schoolyard regattas and gentleman’s clubs that fill his days. Though praised for his sporting talents and fond of books that celebrate daring exploits, he feels trapped by expectations of a quiet academic or military future. A near‑fatal swim in the Thames awakens a restless yearning for a grander destiny, prompting him to consider the call of the sea that once defined his family’s name.

Choosing the uncertain path of a sailor rather than the predictable route to Cambridge, he sets out from his family’s quiet rectory with a mix of youthful bravado and lingering doubt. Along the coast, he encounters colorful mentors, cryptic warnings, and the promise of distant horizons that tease his imagination. As the first leg of his voyage unfolds, the boy from Eton begins to discover that adventure is as much about internal resolve as it is about the storms and seas that lie ahead.
