DICK AND HIS CAT. - An Old Tale IN A NEW GARB. - By MARY ELLIS.
A WORD TO PARENTS.
DICK AND HIS CAT.
A young orphan named Dick wanders the streets, hungry and exhausted, until a kindly household notices his plight. A man and his daughter offer him a simple meal and a place to rest, inviting him to stay while he looks for his lost mother. Though the family is modest and life is hard, the offer of shelter gives Dick a chance to regain his strength and find a new routine.
Soon after arriving, Dick rescues a gray cat being tormented by other children, and the animal quickly becomes his sole companion. The cat’s soft fur and gentle purrs bring comfort to the lonely boy, offering him a quiet friend amid the chores and challenges of his new home. Their growing bond hints at how small acts of kindness can light even the darkest of days.
