In a modest forest clearing a widowed woodcutter struggles to feed his three‑year‑old daughter. One morning a radiant woman crowned with stars appears—she is the Virgin Mary, who offers the child a place among the heavens. The girl is lifted into a realm of golden garments, sweet milk, and playful angels, living in bliss far beyond her earthly poverty.
When she turns fourteen, Mary returns with a set of thirteen keys, allowing her to open twelve wondrous doors that reveal the glory of the celestial kingdom. The thirteenth door, however, is strictly forbidden, warned as a source of unhappiness. As the days pass, curiosity gnaws at the girl, and she begins to wonder what lies behind the sealed portal, setting the stage for a test of obedience and desire.
