In a glittering fairy palace, the resident fairy Rosalinde debates with her companion Lidi about whether any mortal deserves the return of magical gifts after a century of neglect. Their discussion awakens a wandering barometer maker, a jovial yet hapless soul who has survived shipwreck and now drifts onto a mysterious enchanted island. The fairy decides, on a whim, to bestow her powers on the first human she finds nearby, and the barometer maker becomes the unlikely recipient of a whimsical quest.
Guided by a troupe of nymphs, Amazons and loyal servants, the barometer maker must learn to wield the newly granted enchantments—an ornate horn, a shining staff and a sharp saber—while navigating the island’s eccentric inhabitants. Along the way, humorous misunderstandings and playful music highlight his attempts to adapt his scientific trade to a world where weather can be bent by a wave of a wand. The first act unfolds as a lively, light‑hearted adventure, inviting listeners into a realm where chance and charm collide.
