Description

On a barren heath in Flanders stands Poover’s tiny, weather‑worn hut, a patchwork of cracked ochre bricks, a half‑collapsed thatch and a climbing veil of ivy. Inside, the narrow windows are fitted with warped blue shutters that catch the fleeting light when the sun briefly breaks through the grey sky. Around the shack, a handful of chickens, a fat pig, a loyal dog, a watchful cat and a sing‑song nightingale create the only companionship the solitary man knows.

Poover lives a rhythm of quiet labor—tilling potatoes, gathering firewood, and tending his modest garden—while the wind moans over the endless horizon. His speech is reduced to terse sounds, his thoughts confined to the simple needs of his animals and the steady glow of his pipe on summer evenings. Though visits from wandering strangers are rare, each brief encounter nudges the stillness, hinting at a world beyond the heather that may yet disturb his careful solitude.
