Dame Trot and Her Cat

When Dame Trot brings home a remarkably pretty cat from the fair, she expects a gentle pet—but discovers a most unusual housemate. Pussy can prepare tea, sweep the kitchen, keep the pantry safe from mice, and even provide dinner when the cupboard is bare. Her elegant manners soon win over Spot, the old dog, who finds himself learning tricks and sharing unexpected adventures with his new companion.

Yet Pussy is not content with being clever and useful. She dreams of fashionable clothes, elaborate hairstyles, and the admiration reserved for grand ladies, leading her and Spot into a wonderfully comic escapade. Told in lively rhyme with playful illustrations in its language, this gentle tale offers young listeners plenty of animal charm, domestic mischief, and memorable character moments. Beneath the humor is a simple lesson about appreciating natural gifts and remembering that fancy appearances do not always improve what is already delightful.
