Description

A wandering British scholar steps off the ship at Larnaca and sets out on a year‑long exploration of Cyprus, describing each stop as though the island were being unveiled for the first time. From the dusty roads of Nicosia to the sun‑kissed vineyards of Limassol, his keen eye captures the contrast between bustling markets, quiet villages, and the rugged hills that crown the island.

He spends weeks alone in the secluded Trooditissa monastery, observing the rhythm of monastic life and the surrounding forests, while also noting practical matters like irrigation, taxation and the everyday concerns of farmers and soldiers. The narrative weaves geographic facts with personal impressions, offering listeners a vivid portrait of a place at the crossroads of cultures, just as the British administration was beginning its new role.
