Description

In a bustling turn‑of‑the‑century city, the polished yet oddly philosophical Philip Quentin encounters a desperate burglar in the middle of the night. Rather than delivering the intruder to the authorities, Quentin offers him food, a coat and a strangely courteous conversation, turning a would‑be crime into an unexpected dinner invitation. Their banter reveals Quentin’s unconventional view that the mind can outwit the body, while the thief, known only as Turk, wrestles with bewilderment and a growing curiosity about his captor’s motives.

As the two men share a meal in a quiet all‑night eatery, the atmosphere shifts from tension to an odd camaraderie. Quentin’s calm generosity hints at a larger scheme hidden behind the walls of his stately home, Castle Craneycrow, and Turk finds himself drawn into a world where loyalty, wit, and a touch of eccentricity may be more valuable than any stolen loot. The opening sets the stage for a playful yet intricate tale of unlikely alliances and the mysteries that await within the castle’s looming corridors.
