Description

Two hard‑bitten rodeo riders, Bearcat Gibson and his close companion, have just ridden a wave of good fortune after conquering the Eldora rodeo. A letter from an old friend, Clay Hinkle, offers them a cut of the prize money at the famed San Dominick rodeo, promising even bigger stakes and a chance to out‑run old Trouble himself. With pockets jingling and spirits high, they set out for the desert showdown, ready to add another legend to their names.

The celebratory send‑off quickly spirals into comic chaos when a nervous marshal mistakes their revelry for a threat to the town. A slap‑stick showdown erupts: a crooked cane, shattered glass, and a tumble of silk gowns turn the street into a circus of confusing blows. As they scramble to dodge the baffled lawman, a stranger watches from the shadows, hinting that a far more perilous opponent is about to enter the fray.

About the author

Bud La Mar

Western tales of rodeo grit, showmanship, and cowboy rivalry are at the heart of this little-known pulp-era writer’s work. The surviving record is slim, but the stories linked to this name still carry the fast pace and rough-edged charm of 1920s magazine fiction.
