Description

A storm‑laden road winds through the mist‑shrouded valleys of what will become West Virginia, where a rattling stagecoach fights its way toward Lander’s Hill before nightfall. The landscape is a dramatic mix of rugged cliffs, ancient oaks, and rushing torrents, setting a tone of both beauty and foreboding that frames the turbulent times ahead.

Among the cramped passengers sits a dignified Virginia planter, his silver‑strewn hair and steady gray eyes revealing a life of comfort now tempered by uncertainty. He travels with a solitary lady, whose presence hints at the fragile social ties still holding together a fractured world. As the coach struggles against rain and darkness, the journey promises to bring him face‑to‑face with the deepening rifts of a nation at war—where loyalties are tested and brothers may find themselves on opposite sides.
