A breezy morning in 1718 finds a lanky youngster named Jack wandering the dusty streets of Charles Town, South Carolina. The town hums with the clatter of log‑huts, bustling markets, and the low murmur of slaves and Native traders, while the salty wind carries the promise of adventure from the harbor’s lone brig. Jack’s eyes are drawn to the rising silhouette of a heavily armed ship, its decks bristling with cannon and crew, a tangible reminder that the line between law and outlaw is razor‑thin in this colonial fringe.
When the brig’s captain—a flamboyant, red‑coated leader known as Stede Bonnet—steps ashore, the town’s uneasy dance with piracy spikes into view. Pirates are simultaneously feared, welcomed, and relied upon for the scarce goods they bring, threading a fragile alliance between settlers and marauders. As Jack watches the pirates marshal their men, the stage is set for daring escapes, uneasy bargains, and the tangled loyalties that will shape his coming journey.
