Two teenage brothers sit cramped in a railway carriage, their conversation crackling with rivalry and uneasy affection. Janek, the older, sharp‑tongued brother, pushes the younger Tadek to prove himself, teasing him about hunger, courage, and the looming responsibilities of adulthood. Their banter is peppered with glimpses of family pressure—a demanding uncle’s scheme, a promised trip to the sea, and the promise of a journey to Zakopane that they both feel the weight of.
As the train rattles toward the mountainous town, the boys begin to piece together a clandestine plan that could change their lives. They speak of locating a missing girl, coordinating with distant relatives, and sneaking past officials, all while trying to hide their nerves behind jokes and daring. The story captures the restless energy of youth on the brink of adventure, set against the vivid backdrop of early‑20th‑century Poland, where every whispered secret feels like the first step toward an uncertain future.
