Bennie and the Tiger
BENNIE AND THE TIGER.
In a quiet Indian village, little Bennie falls asleep on the verandah while his careless nurse wanders away. A prowling tiger discovers the unguarded child and carries him into the jungle, where the boy’s innocence and trust stand in striking contrast to the danger around him. The story follows the tense rescue attempt of an aged native who tracks the tiger and risks everything to save Bennie.
Alongside this dramatic adventure is a tender reflection on faith, family, and protection. The narrative turns Bennie’s deliverance into a lesson about trusting God against unseen spiritual dangers, offering young listeners a clear moral perspective in the gentle, earnest style of an old-fashioned children’s tale. A closing poem, “The Dead Brother,” shifts to grief and remembrance, portraying a family mourning a lost child while holding to the hope of reunion in heaven. Together, the pieces combine suspense, religious instruction, and heartfelt emotion.
