In the wind‑swept hills of the Ardennes, seventeen‑year‑old Emile tends his family’s modest farm, where the rocky soil yields more sturdy horses than grain. When a fine colt is born the winter before King Leopold’s death, Emile’s parents name it Baldwin, entrusting the boy with its care and his own coming of age. The boy quickly forms a deep bond with the bright‑eyed foal, sharing secret treats and dreaming of the distant markets where such steeds become prized by kings.
One evening, while wandering along the nearby river, Emile encounters a shimmering figure—a silver knight on a moonlit steed—who speaks of an ancient river fairy bound to the waters. The knight warns that Baldwin’s fate may be intertwined with the fairy’s lingering promise, urging Emile to protect the colt from forces that would claim its rare gifts. As the night deepens, the boy must decide whether to follow the mysterious summons, stepping beyond the familiar fields into a realm of enchantment and peril.
