In the summer of 1882 a young explorer finds himself locked in the ice along Greenland’s remote eastern shore, his vessel stranded for twenty‑four days while towering glaciers glow in the midnight sun. The stark beauty of the frozen landscape, with its fiery horizons and jagged peaks, awakens a restless curiosity that refuses to be quieted. From the deck he watches the sea‑ice shift, pondering how a determined party might break free of the maritime dead‑end that has halted countless attempts before him.
That restless curiosity soon crystallizes into a bold proposal: to cross the icy continent on sturdy snowshoes, moving inland from the very coast that has held them captive. He sketches a practical plan, arguing that a well‑equipped band of seasoned Norwegian seal‑hunters could trek across the interior if they start from the eastern side rather than the traditional western approach. The narrative follows his meticulous preparation, the gathering of maps and equipment, and the simmering anticipation of an expedition that promises to unveil a side of Greenland no one has yet seen.
