Description

A sleek steamer named Fatima and its small consort have just slipped out of Alexandria, leaving the Nile’s mysteries behind. The youthful crew, led by an eager young captain, must outwit an unseen foe who shadows their Mediterranean crossing, and a sudden gale forces them to rely on their own skill when the larger vessel can’t keep pace. In a tight, storm‑tossed Bay of Cyprus the boys confront danger head‑on, demonstrating quick thinking that saves their craft and foils the pirate threat.

Beyond the action, the voyage doubles as a floating classroom. While the ship threads the newly opened Suez Canal, the commander turns the deck into a lecture hall, weaving tales of ancient Assyria, Babylon and the early Islamic world with observations of geography and biblical history. The journey promises further discovery as the party prepares to follow the “Asiatic breezes” into the wider reaches of the East.
