Description

A sweeping survey of the Western Hemisphere, this work opens with the rich agricultural traditions of the ancient peoples who first tilled its soils. It then follows the moment when European explorers first set foot on the new continent, tracing the routes of Columbus, Magellan and the early conquistadors who reshaped the landscape.

The narrative moves through the clash of cultures that followed, describing the rise of colonial settlements, the expansion of French, Spanish and English influence, and the tumult of the American Revolution. It continues into the era of slavery, the struggle for abolition, the Civil War and the challenges of reconstruction, ending with a portrait of a nation still forging its identity at the close of the nineteenth century.

Throughout, the author weaves together geography, economics and social change, offering listeners a clear, balanced picture of how a continent once unknown became a central stage for global history.
