Jack Morris is a practical man with simple tastes: run his traveling wax museum, keep the cash coming, and spend the occasional weekend in Miami Beach. At a lively Illinois carnival, his Chamber of Marvels draws curious crowds with eerie figures of famous and infamous people, while Morris concerns himself mainly with tickets, expenses, and keeping the show running.
Then, just before opening time, Morris sees something that doesn’t fit his ordinary world—a shooting star with an unmistakable green tail, apparently dropping toward the nearby woods. He dismisses the sight as a trick of the light, bad food, or an overactive imagination, but the moment lingers. As night settles over the glowing midway and the wax figures emerge from the gloom, the familiar carnival atmosphere takes on a stranger edge. This atmospheric tale begins with an unassuming showman, an unsettling celestial omen, and the possibility that one of his exhibits may be connected to something far beyond the ordinary.
