Description

In a sleepy English village, the summer air is filled with the discordant chorus of a church choir, while a lanky young man in cricket flannels watches from the porch. Nearby, Miss Mills, a strict governess, leads her two pupils—Judy, restless and yearning, and her quiet companion Babs—through the winding lanes toward the woods. The scene is painted with crisp autumn light, bracken and heather waiting to be gathered for a family dinner.

Judy clings to a promise she believes Miss Mills made—that a good girl might earn a secret meeting with her beloved sister Hilda after church. As the girls wander, subtle glances and whispered challenges hint at a brewing defiance against the expectations of their genteel world. The young man’s fleeting wink suggests he may be drawn into their quiet rebellion, setting the stage for a youthful mutiny that could upend their tranquil lives.
