Description

Born into an ancient line that vanished with his father's death, a baby Earl of Cairnforth is thrust into a world of privilege and isolation on a remote Scottish peninsula. The castle, perched between two lochs—one tranquil, the other dark and tempestuous—frames a landscape of mist‑clad mountains and sudden squalls that mirror the fragility of his inherited destiny. As the infant is left unattended, his sizable estate and a title that will soon dissolve set the stage for a life marked by duty, loss, and the weight of a vanished lineage.

When a sudden storm capsizes the minister’s boat, the tragedy that claims the earl and his loyal boatman arrives like a grim omen, leaving only a young boy witness to the calamity. The solemn reverend, tasked with delivering the heartbreaking news to the grieving countess, becomes a quiet conduit for fate, binding together the castle’s remaining souls. In the weeks that follow, the narrative follows the orphan’s upbringing, the machinations of estate stewards, and the lingering mystery of a title that may never be reclaimed.
