Description

In this vivid Victorian narrative, Dora—a sharp‑tongued and introspective young woman—records her thoughts in a secret journal, the only outlet for the fury she feels toward the military presence that has invaded her tranquil moorland home. The aftermath of a recent eastern war has left a sprawling camp of red‑coated soldiers marching through the countryside, disrupting every conversation and shattering the peace she once cherished. Through her candid entries, Dora exposes the clash between personal conviction and the rigid expectations of her clergyman father and genteel society.

As the season shifts, Dora is reluctantly pulled toward a grand ball at the Grantons' house, a social obligation that promises more encounters with the very officers she despises. The tension between her yearning for solitude and the pull of propriety fuels a compelling portrait of a woman wrestling with identity, duty, and the shadow of war. Listeners will be drawn into her fiery prose and the delicate balance of humor and melancholy that defines her struggle.
