Description

Set against the vibrant court of King Matthias Corvinus, the story follows the intertwining lives of Czech settlers who have made Hungary their home. Through the eyes of a young, ambitious officer‑turned‑writer, the narrative paints a picture of bustling towns, fortified castles and the everyday struggles of families trying to preserve their language, customs and faith amid the king’s ambitious reforms.

The protagonist’s journey takes him from the battlefields of Europe to the literary salons of Paris and Vienna, where he discovers a love for storytelling that compels him to give voice to his community’s hidden histories. As he returns to the Hungarian plains, he confronts the tension between duty and desire, witnessing how the Czechs navigate loyalty to the crown while safeguarding their own identity.

Rich in period detail and gentle humor, the novel offers a fresh glimpse into a lesser‑known chapter of Central European history, inviting listeners to explore the hopes, conflicts, and quiet heroism of a people caught between two worlds.
