A Bit of Sunshine
After a long rain, young Kate is eager to feel the sunshine, but her mother suggests a family drive instead. Soon Kate is enjoying a bright afternoon by the sea, where green fields, racing ships, fishing boats, foaming waves, and a lively beach make every turn of the road full of interest.
Kate notices the people who live and work along the shore: a fisherman repairing his boat, a boy carving a model vessel, a girl making lace, and children walking home from school. Safe beneath their carriage top when another shower arrives, Kate begins to see that the pleasures and comforts she takes for granted are not shared by everyone. This gentle, warmly observed story follows her cheerful curiosity as a simple outing opens her eyes to the lives around her. Its seaside scenes, childlike imagination, and quiet lessons make it a pleasant listen for young audiences and families.
