Fatty Coon is a round, whiskered youngster who lives with his mother and siblings in a hollow branch of a towering poplar near a swampy valley. With a bright eye and a habit of polishing his white moustache after every meal, he’s never satisfied by the dinners his family provides. His appetite drives him to sample everything the forest offers—berries, bugs, fish, even the occasional duck or snake—always hoping for the next tasty find.
One sunny morning Fatty decides to leave the brook’s edge and explore the woods on his own, convinced there must be more to discover beyond his mother’s kitchen. He climbs a tall hemlock, enjoys the sway of the branches, and drifts into a nap high above the ground. When he awakens, hunger gnaws at him again, and he sets off, eyes scanning the treetops for the promise of hidden treats. The tale follows his curious wanderings and the unexpected encounters that begin to teach him that the world has more to offer than just food.
