Cliff, a fifteen‑year‑old cadet at Amadale Military Academy, lives with his Aunt Lucy while his archaeologist father remains lost among distant ruins. One afternoon a pair of strangers—a shifty Spaniard and a solemn native—burst onto the porch, demanding a mysterious letter from Peru that Cliff has never seen. Their urgent offer of a hefty payment and cryptic hints about “Inca gold” spark more questions than answers, especially when they claim the letter is linked to his father’s last expedition.
Joined by his loyal friends Tom and Nicky, Cliff’s curiosity turns into a full‑blown investigation. The boys must decide whether to hand over the unopened missive or follow the strangers’ trail into a world of ancient cities, secret festivals, and dangerous betrayals. As the first clues surface, the trio finds themselves on the brink of an adventure that could finally illuminate the shadowy mystery surrounding their missing parent.

A screenwriter from the silent-film era who later turned to fast-moving adventure stories for boys, blending mystery, aviation, and cliffhanger energy. His books capture a lively moment when airplanes still felt new and every hidden hangar promised trouble.
