A 19th-century Finnish poet, teacher, journalist, and translator, he is best remembered for the poem "Miks' leivo lennät Suomehen?" later set to music by Erkki Melartin. His life was brief and troubled, but his writing ranged from lyric poetry to translations, textbooks, and local history.
