Etienne Dinet

1861–1929

Known for vivid paintings of North Africa, this French artist spent much of his career in Algeria and became especially admired for scenes of everyday life in the region. Later in life he converted to Islam and took the name Nasreddine Dinet, adding another layer to a life that crossed cultures in unusual ways.
