Set against the turquoise waters of the Tonga archipelago, a young English captain arrives on his first command—a whaling vessel called the Lucy Walker—seeking fish and profit. The island’s warm hospitality and vibrant daily life quickly draw him away from the rigors of the sea, as he spends his days exploring coral bays and sharing stories with the locals.

Among the islanders he meets Hua, the spirited daughter of a chief, whose laughter and curiosity awaken feelings he never expected. While he becomes enchanted by her world, his crew grows restless, reminding him of the unfinished hunt and the looming return to the open ocean. The captain must balance his newfound affection with the responsibilities that pulled him to these waters.
