Sam Yoder works as a telephone lineman in a quiet town, hoping to prove himself to his fiancée, Rosie. While climbing a pole to locate a dead party‑line one July morning, his handset rings with a voice insisting, “Sam, this is you,” claiming to be the same man ten days ahead in time. The impossible call drags Sam into a baffling situation where his own future voice seems to have traveled back along the wire.
At first he assumes a prank, but the stranger knows intimate details only Sam could keep and even points out the exact spots where the line is broken. The future‑self tempts him with the promise of a quick fortune if he follows the instructions, turning a routine repair into a high‑stakes puzzle. As the conversation deepens, Sam wrestles with questions of privacy, sanity, and the strange mechanics of “time‑talking,” leaving him unsure whether he’s being duped or witnessing a genuine breach of temporal law.
