Evan Weir is a young painter teetering on the brink of despair. Stuck in a cramped attic overlooking Washington Square, he can’t finish a canvas, can’t read, and finds the bustling city outside both maddening and enviable. His restless mind drives him out onto the streets, where the vibrant life of the Italian quarter offers a stark contrast to his own stagnant world.
Wandering further into the multicultural Syrian quarter, Evan’s curiosity is piqued by a strange, gaunt old man in ill‑fitting clothes, clutching a crumpled bundle and obsessively examining apples at a fruit‑stand. The encounter feels oddly familiar yet unsettling, hinting at hidden motives and a mystery that could pull Evan out of his creative slump. As the city’s colors and noises swirl around him, the stage is set for a tangled affair that promises both personal revelation and a puzzling investigation.
