The wandering king finally drifts ashore on a bright, foreign coast, his ship guided by the sea‑god’s currents. Exhausted but unbowed, he steps onto the gleaming palace of Alcinous, the ruler of the Phaeacians, whose halls sparkle with bronze and gold. The island’s people, curious and generous, welcome the stranger with cautious wonder.
Athena, disguised as a kind‑hearted woman, appears at his side, offering counsel and reassurance. She leads him through the marble corridors, past towering statues and a throne room where silver doors gleam like the sun. The king, impressed by the guest’s bearing, promises safe harbor and a feast, setting the stage for a night of stories.
As the fire crackles, the hero prepares to recount the trials that have shaped his journey, inviting listeners into a tapestry of gods, monsters, and human courage.

Tradition remembers this ancient Greek poet as the voice behind the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epics that shaped storytelling for centuries. Even though little can be known for certain about the historical person, the poems linked to him still feel vivid, dramatic, and deeply human.
