Alexander Chodzko
1804–1891
A poet, diplomat, and scholar of Persian culture, he spent years in Iran collecting folklore and helping introduce it to European readers. Later, he taught Slavic literature in Paris and moved between Polish, Russian, Persian, and French intellectual worlds.
