Jimmy Rabbit has always felt self‑conscious about his stubby tail, especially when the other forest creatures flash their long, bushy ones. After failed attempts to borrow, buy, or even steal a tail, he stumbles across a striking red one with a black tip lying near a pile of chips. Determined to look the part, he fashions a makeshift strap and attaches the new tail to his own. The moment he hops back into the woods, the animals gasp in admiration, though the grouchy Mr. Crow mutters that “handsomeness is as handsome does.”
Soon after, a shadowy voice calls out—Mr. Mink, who lost his own tail long ago, is chasing Jimmy, accusing him of theft. Jimmy darts home, heart pounding, while the red tail sways behind him like a bold banner. The forest gossip spreads, and the warning from Mr. Crow that “trouble lies behind that tail” begins to echo in Jimmy’s mind. Listeners are left wondering whether the flashy new accessory will bring confidence or a tangled mess of trouble.
