In the quiet farmland of Pleasant Valley, the night is alive with the chatter of crickets, frogs, and a particularly loud katydid named Kiddie. Every evening the katydids repeat a mysterious refrain—“Katy did, Katy did”—a secret that only their noisy clan seems to know. While the other creatures settle into their own melodies, Kiddie stakes out a tree near Farmer Green’s house, turning the darkness into his personal stage.
Johnnie Green, who tries to sleep beneath the eaves, grows increasingly exasperated by Kiddie’s endless chorus, even shouting for quiet as the chant persists. Yet the katydids consider the night theirs, and the mystery of Katy remains unspoken by the quieter members of the family. Listeners are invited to join this whimsical, moonlit world where each creature’s voice contributes to a gentle, slightly mischievous symphony.
