About the author

Yale Divinity School is one of Yale University’s graduate and professional schools in New Haven, Connecticut, with roots going back to a theological department established in 1822. Over time, it developed from a school shaped by Congregationalist training into an interdenominational, nonsectarian institution that welcomes students from many denominations and faith groups.

The school describes its mission as fostering the knowledge and love of God through serious scholarship, preparation for lives of transformative service, broad inclusivity and diversity, engagement with music and the arts, and care for the earth. Its academic offerings include the M.Div., M.A.R., and S.T.M., and it works closely with related Yale partners including Berkeley Divinity School, the Institute of Sacred Music, and Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School.

Yale Divinity School also highlights a strongly residential learning community and a long record of influence in religion, education, and public life. Its faculty and alumni have included major theologians, clergy, writers, activists, and public leaders, reflecting the school’s long-standing blend of faith, intellect, and service.
