About the author

Born in London on April 21, 1873, Winifred Graham wrote under the name Winifred Graham, though her full name was Matilda Winifred Muriel Graham. She published novels from the 1890s onward and built a long writing career that stretched across several decades.

Alongside her fiction, she became especially notable for religious and political controversy. She wrote strongly critical books about Mormonism and Roman Catholicism, including The Love Story of a Mormon and The Mormons: A Popular History from Earliest Times to the Present Day, and was described in reference sources as an anti-Mormon activist.

Graham died at Hampton-on-Thames on February 5, 1950. Today she is remembered both as a productive popular writer and as a striking example of how authors of her time used fiction and nonfiction to take part in public arguments far beyond the literary world.
