About the author

Born in Beacon, New York, on November 26, 1895, he studied at Hamilton College and later joined the faculty of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1923. Archival records from the University of Houston describe him as a scholar of Latin American theatre, and Miami University memorial material remembers him as a deeply influential teacher.

He is especially noted for pioneering work on Latin American literature and theatre for U.S. readers. A University of Texas Press author note for Behind Spanish American Footlights describes him as an early champion of the field, known for introducing Spanish-language texts and translations to a wider audience through books, journals, and newspapers.

Alongside his academic career, he also wrote fiction. Public-domain and library records connect his name with stories published in magazines such as Weird Tales, showing a career that ranged from university scholarship to popular imaginative writing. He died in 1982.
