by William Thomas Pavitt, Kate Pavitt
Born in Langley, Buckinghamshire, in 1870, William Thomas Pavitt became an Arts and Crafts designer and maker of talismanic jewellery. His work included symbolic rings, pendants, metalwork, and other decorative objects, and he was associated with premises at 17 Hanover Square in London.
Pavitt married Kate Pitt in 1906. Together they wrote The Book of Talismans, Amulets and Zodiacal Gems, first published in 1914, a richly illustrated study of the symbolic and magical traditions surrounding precious stones, amulets, and zodiacal imagery.
His interests connected jewellery, symbolism, astrology, and Theosophy. Pavitt died in 1937, leaving behind a distinctive body of Arts and Crafts work and a rare contribution to twentieth-century occult literature.
