1869–1933
Best known for writing the widely read 1900 biography of evangelist Dwight L. Moody, this American author brought a close family perspective to one of the era’s major religious figures. His work is especially valued for its firsthand access, detail, and sense of purpose.

by William R. (William Revell) Moody, Henry Davenport Northrop
William R. Moody, fully identified in library records as William Revell Moody (1869–1933), is chiefly remembered as the author of The Life of Dwight L. Moody, by His Son. Published in 1900 by Fleming H. Revell, the book became the official authorized life of the evangelist Dwight L. Moody and has remained the work most closely associated with him.
What makes William R. Moody especially interesting is the position from which he wrote. As Dwight L. Moody’s son, he was able to draw on family knowledge, personal memory, and materials that were close to the Moody circle. Later editions and library listings continue to identify the book with him by name, showing how firmly his reputation rests on this substantial biography.
Little else was consistently confirmed in the sources I found, so it seems safest to remember him primarily as a biographer whose lasting contribution was preserving the life and influence of his father for later readers.
