About the author

William Pemble was an English theologian and author, born around 1591 or 1592 and dead in 1623. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, and later became associated with Magdalen Hall, where he was known as a reader and tutor.

Although he died young, Pemble left behind a body of writing that was published after his death. His works focus largely on Protestant theology, especially faith, grace, and the interpretation of scripture, and they helped preserve his reputation among later religious readers.

He is also notable for A Briefe Introduction to Geography, a compact educational work that gave him a wider place in print culture beyond strictly devotional writing. That mix of scholarship, preaching, and practical instruction makes him an interesting figure among early 17th-century English authors.
