About the author

William Fleming (1844–1921) was a Catholic priest who served as a canon at St. Mary’s, Moorfields, in London. He is chiefly remembered for his historical writing on Catholic persecution and martyrdom in Britain.

His major work, A Complete History of the British Martyrs, traced the stories of English martyrs through the reign of Elizabeth I. Fleming’s writing reflects the strong devotional and historical interest in England’s Catholic past during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
