Born in Gissigheim on March 13, 1862, Wilhelm Weigand was a German writer associated with Realism and Neoromanticism. He was born Wilhelm Schnarrenberger and later adopted his grandmother’s maiden name, becoming Wilhelm Weigand.
He is remembered as a poet and prose writer whose work was shaped by southern German and Franconian settings. After moving to Munich, he became part of the city’s literary world, and his career spanned decades in which German literature was rapidly changing.
