About the author

Born in Topeka, Kansas, in 1883, Wallace Thompson built his career as an editor, correspondent, and nonfiction writer with a strong focus on Latin America. Reference works and library records connect him with publications and reporting on Mexico from the early 1900s onward, and his books show a lasting interest in how politics, everyday life, and international business shaped the region.

His known books include The People of Mexico (1921), Trading with Mexico (1921), The Mexican Mind (1922), Rainbow Countries of Central America (1927), and Greater America (1932). These works helped introduce English-language readers to Mexico and Central America through a mix of travel observation, political interpretation, and economic commentary.

He died in 1936 at age 53. Some surviving biographical details come from catalog records and reference entries rather than full modern biographies, so the broad outline of his career is clearer than many of the personal details of his life.
