Born on April 4, 1867, in Grote Lindt near Dordrecht, Willem Schippers later lived in Dordrecht and worked as a metal turner. Alongside that working life, he built a substantial career as a writer.

He wrote many popular novels and children's books in a Protestant Christian vein. Reference sources describe his work as wide-ranging and note that a number of his stories are connected to Zeeland, including Een zeemansvrouw (1913), De sluiker (1931), and De jongens van 'De Roerdomp' (1940).

Schippers died in Dordrecht on April 11, 1954. He is remembered as a prolific Dutch author whose fiction was aimed at ordinary readers and younger audiences, with a clear moral and religious outlook.
