About the author

W. H. Myddleton was a pen name used by George Arnold Haynes Safroni-Middleton (1873–1950), a British writer, composer, violinist, harpist, and conductor. Sources on Safroni-Middleton identify William H. Myddleton as one of the names he used for several works, which is why books in library records may appear under both names.

He was born in 1873 and led an unusually varied life in music and travel. Accounts of his career describe performances and tours across Australia, South America, Europe, and parts of Asia and the Pacific, and note that he later worked in London with the Carl Rosa Opera Company. As a writer, he produced novels, memoirs, travel books, and verse.

Readers coming to Myddleton for fiction will usually find a taste for faraway settings and adventure. Works linked with this name include Gabrielle of the Lagoon, while Safroni-Middleton is also remembered for books such as Sailor and Beachcomber and A Vagabond's Odyssey. He died in 1950.
