About the author

Born in Llandudno, Wales, on December 6, 1890, Violet Mary Firth later became widely known as Dion Fortune. She was a British writer and occult thinker whose books explored mysticism, ceremonial magic, psychic self-defense, and the Western esoteric tradition.

She was also a co-founder of the Fraternity of the Inner Light, an organization devoted to spiritual and esoteric study. Alongside nonfiction works, she wrote novels as well, and her writing often combined symbolic teaching with a strong narrative voice.

Fortune died in January 1946, but her books have remained influential for readers interested in occult philosophy, spiritual practice, and early 20th-century alternative thought.
