About the author

Writing as Villamaria, Marie Jeserich Timme was a German author born in Berlin in 1830. Library and authority records identify Villamaria as her pseudonym, and her work appears in both German and English editions.

She is especially associated with collections of folklore and fairy tales, including Elfenreigen and the English volume Fairy Circles: Tales and Legends of Giants, Dwarfs, Fairies, Water-Sprites, and Hobgoblins from 1877. Her writing drew on German and Nordic story traditions and was aimed at readers who enjoyed imaginative, old-world tales.

Although not a widely documented public figure today, her books have endured through major library and digitization projects, which have helped keep her stories available to new generations of readers. She died in 1895.
