About the author

Vilhelm Krag was a Norwegian poet, writer, journalist, and cultural figure, born in Kristiansand on December 24, 1871, and died on July 10, 1933. He became one of the most visible and productive Norwegian authors of his time, working across poetry, prose, drama, and journalism.

He is often remembered as the writer who introduced the name Sørlandet for the southern region of Norway, and as a leading literary voice from that part of the country. Sources also describe him as a very versatile public figure who worked not only as an author, but also as a publishing consultant, stage director, and theater leader.

Today, he is especially associated with lyrical writing and with evoking the landscapes and people of southern Norway. He was also the younger brother of novelist Thomas Krag, and his writing left a lasting mark on Norwegian literary and regional identity.
