About the author

Born in Kristiansand in 1871, Vilhelm Krag became one of Norway’s most distinctive literary voices around the turn of the 20th century. He is especially remembered as Sørlandets dikter—the poet of Southern Norway—and for helping popularize the name Sørlandet for that part of the country.

Krag wrote in several genres, including poetry, novels, short prose, and plays. His early breakthrough came as a poet, and his writing is often linked to neo-romanticism, while also drawing strongly on local nature, coastal life, and the people of southern Norway.

Alongside his literary work, he also worked as a journalist and in the theater world. He died in 1933, but he remains an important figure in Norwegian literature, especially for readers interested in regional writing and the cultural history of Southern Norway.
