Born in Turin on December 19, 1834, Valentino Carrera was an Italian dramatist and comic playwright. Italian reference sources describe him as a writer who hoped to create a truly popular theater, and he is especially remembered for his comedies.

Before devoting himself fully to writing, he worked in the customs administration. He left that post in 1878 and dedicated himself entirely to theatrical production, continuing a career that included many comedies, vaudevilles, and stage works.

His best-known play is La quaderna di Nanni (1870), often noted for its vivid picture of Florentine life and for the wider reputation it brought him. Carrera died in Turin on October 12, 1895.
